Nickel-based superalloys exhibit excellent high temperature strength, corrosion and oxidation resistance creep resistance. They are widely used in applications aerospace, power petrochemical industries. The need for economical efficient usage of materials often necessitates the joining dissimilar metals. In this study, welding between two different nickel-based superalloys, Inconel 718 600, was attempted using rotary friction welding. Sound metallurgical joints were produced without any unwanted Laves or delta phases at weld region, which invariably appear fusion welds. thermal cycle found to result significant grain coarsening heat effected zone (HAZ) on either side interface due prevailing cycles during However, fine equiaxed grains observed dynamic recrystallization caused by severe plastic deformation temperatures. room tensile tests, fail HAZ exhibiting good ultimate strength (759 MPa) a loss ductility (21%). A scanning electron microscopic examination fracture surfaces revealed dimpled rupture features, suggesting ductile mode.
